Jayanth Jinnareddy promised to improve the campus culture in his manifesto. Pearl 24 was a success in most parts and the cultural scene of the campus has evolved under the tenure. Looking back at his manifesto, as of August 2024, out of the many main points in his manifesto, 6/14 have been completed, 3/14 have not been completed, and 5/14 were partially completed. PEARL related ideas
- Out-of-campus exposure for clubs and Regionals for Pearl: Partially Fulfilled
The Dance Club, Cypher, and Music Club were given funds/reimbursement to go to Waves (the BITS Goa Fest) and for other events within or around Hyderabad. Flash mobs were conducted in Hyderabad but the actual regionals in other cities for fest publicity did not take place due to budget constraints. - Major Decision-making: Fulfilled
PoRs of clubs and departments were consulted before making major decisions regarding Pearl. Thus, the point was completed. - Pearl dates to be shifted earlier: Not fulfilled
Pearl was held largely at the same time, with Pearl ‘23 being held from 31st March to 2nd April 2023, and Pearl ‘24 from 28th to 31st March 2024. The Secretary mentions that the event was completed in the previous financial year instead of spilling into April. - Pearl Ball to be organized: Fulfilled
A ball dance took place during the fest, and it can be deemed a success. - Moonlight Dinners to be held: Fulfilled
Two such dinners were organized during the year with the SUC playing a part in them, thus the promise was fulfilled. - Pre-fest work to be started earlier: Fulfilled
The work for Pearl was started in November, which was “much earlier than the previous SUC”.
Other ideas
- Fund allocation for off-campus activities: Partially fulfilled
Clubs were sent to other places to participate in activities, despite some lack of funds, but there is scope for improvement, with more encouragement needed, as per the Cultural Secretary’s own words.
- RAF organizes more movie screenings, from various languages: Partially fulfilled
RAF was asked to organize movies from more languages in the second semester since that did not happen in the first semester, but the Secretary mentioned that RAF may not be mentioned in the future and that the SU can fulfill this on their own.
- Partnerships with crowd-favourite restaurants: Fulfilled
The list of about 10+ places was posted on Facebook, and BITSians can avail discounts by showing their ID card, thus the promises were fulfilled during his tenure.
- Collaboration between regional associations: Fulfilled
Multiple regional associations collaborated in festivals like Janmashtami and Lohri to make the events grander and better. The secretary was able to achieve this within his tenure.
- To organize an event like Grubs: Not fulfilled
The Pilani campus organized this event to show off diverse cuisines to their GB, but this promise did not take place here due to coordination problems with the SMC.
- Monthly Cultural Nights: Not fulfilled
While open mics were organized to showcase stand-up comedy and music nights for GB to perform, there wasn’t a functioning schedule for all the cultural clubs to perform on a monthly basis. Although some regional associations did showcase and organize events.
- RIXA AND RENAISSANCE: Partially fulfilled
Renaissance and Rixa were conducted in the even semester. There wasn’t as much participation as expected, but the cultural clubs and sports teams have actively participated in organizing these.
The following are the closing remarks by the Secretary at the end of his tenure, addressed to the next SUC:
Know your duties well, help each other, and be kind to clubs and departments that approach you. Remember that you are there with a sense of responsibility, and great power comes with responsibility as well. We are always approachable, speaking on behalf of the 2023–24 Student Union.
