The main tenets of his manifesto were a more responsible, transparent SUC that also takes care of the issues at ground level. Looking back at his manifesto, as of August 2024, out of the many main points in his manifesto, 5/12 have been completed, 2/12 have not been completed, and 5/12 were partially completed. Here’s the link to the manifesto. As it stands, here is the progress on his promises:
- GBMs – Not completed
General Body Meetings are a cornerstone in the microcosm of democracy on campus. According to the President, 3 GBMs were conducted other than the ones for fests. However, only two emails were found announcing a general issues GBM, on 19th September 2023, and on 27th February, which would be after the Pearl ‘24 Budget GBM. Further, the President failed to successfully address the various issues faced by the GB during his tenure. - Fests- Completed
The manifesto promised a balance between profit and glamour, and was pretty well delivered upon. ATMOS was a profit making fest, Arena relatively and Pearl took care of the promised glamour. All in all, the SUC ended up with an approximate 13-16L of deficit,(the account for Pearl has not been closed even now) but it can be said that the promise was delivered. - Transparency – Partially Completed
Another very important pillar of the manifesto was the transparency of the SUC’s actions. Though efforts were made to ensure complete disclosure of figures, a lack of data from previous tenures hindered any significant progress. This can be seen especially in the case of the accounts for Pearl, which haven’t been closed and corroborated for two years(2019 and 2023). - Peer Mentorship Program – Completed
A very important initiative to ease the transition into campus life, the Peer Mentorship Program was renewed. (Currently, this initiative has been replaced by the SWMC, which comes directly under the Director) - Dog Menace – Partially Completed
With cases of dogs becoming violent, they were deemed an issue in the manifesto. Dogs were sterilised and vaccinated, but the prevailing issue of dogs inside hostels was not taken care of. Some programs on dog awareness were attempted but fell through. - LAN Connectivity – Partially Completed
A smooth internet connection is a necessity for any top-tier institution. New wifi routers were installed, and others were replaced. Gandhi, Ram, and Krishna have Wifi issues because of the walls, but efforts were made to improve connectivity. - Freelance Portal – Not completed
The freelance portal was a novel idea to connect skilled hobbyists on campus with companies that required their skills. The President informed us that the backend was developed, but the remaining progress was halted due to the SU Website being shut down. - Technical Void – Completed
Though not strictly under his domain, one of his promises was to support the Technical Senate, which he has delivered to the extent of his ability. He brought back pre-ATMOS activities, which had been discontinued in previous years. - Merchandise quality and swiftness of delivery – Partially Completed
Most of the merchandise was delivered within the promised time, though the Varsity Jackets in particular underwent delays in delivery due to quality issues. - Club Collaborations – Completed
Around 8-9 collaborative events were conducted, with both clubs and regional associations taking part in this framework. This promise was delivered and was executed excellently, with the Cultural Secretary playing a vital role. - Coupons – Completed
A major problem at fests is the crowds at the coupon stalls. Though there was no major increase in the number of coupon stalls, other measures were introduced. Payments through UPI were introduced, and coupon stalls were opened on Day 0 of ATMOS. With this, the stress on the coupon stalls was definitely reduced. - General initiatives – Partially completed
- Improving Medical Centre accessibility – Partially Completed
- Frequently conducting stakeholder review meetings – Not Completed
- General Body Google Calendar – Not Completed
- Hostel In-time removal – Completed
- Gym timings extension – Completed
- Addition of vending machines to Acad Block – Not completed
The following are the closing remarks by the President at the end of his tenure:
Becoming the President of the SUC was a dream come true. I would like to thank each and everyone who has believed in me. I’ve learned a lot, I have worked with so many beautiful, amazing and skilled people. All the department heads, club heads, the entire technical senate, the sports senate, and everyone else too has done a wonderful job. Though a few things did not go well, I think everyone in our tenure has given their all to the general body. I hope everyone has enjoyed it. But then things did not end on a good note for me, about which I’m not very sad; but again I just wanted to say that it’s not about me. There are lots of people who have worked very hard for you guys, for the whole of the general body. I would say that the kind of behavior, the way they treat the representatives should change a little bit, at least for the next SUC or the next elected student representatives. This applied to the department heads, club heads or any other student body heads as well. Anyways, thank you so much to each and everyone, to all of the general body; all the faculty members, all the office staff who have helped this SUC. Thank you.
