The Technical Secretary of the AY 2023-24 held a successful tenure with Atmos ‘23 resulting in profits of around Rs. 20L. The fest also marked an increase in the number of workshops, headliner events, and overall footfall. The Secretary was the sole candidate and was elected based on a manifesto that promised a lot. Looking back at his manifesto, as of August 2024, out of the many main points in his manifesto, 7/15 have been completed, 1/15 has not been completed, and 7/15 were partially completed. Here’s the link to the manifesto. Let’s take a deep dive and analyze the manifesto.
PROPOSALS FOR ATMOS ‘23
- Diversity in Events (Partially Completed)
The manifesto promised a lot with regard to the events for Atmos ‘23. However, the Secretary could complete a part of his promises (MiniGP) while the rest remained too ambitious (Drone Show). The Secretary had raised the issue with the concerned authorities which denied the go-ahead after taking into consideration the issues faced at the Pilani campus with the Drone Show. - More Workshops by the Technical Senate (Completed)
According to the Secretary, the scale of the workshops in sheer numbers increased by 30%. The workshops conducted were on a much diverse scale with numerous electronics, mechanical, and civil workshops also being conducted. - Better Execution of Prefest (Partially Completed)
The Pre-Fest was conducted, according to the Secretary, in a different manner. However, due to the lack of Regionals, the Pre-Fest lacked the effect that it could have had. - Large-Scale Hackathons & App Fests (Partially Completed)
According to the Secretary, the aim of this point in the manifesto was to conduct a huge Hackathon with a large and diverse participation, right from freshers to 4th-year students as well. However, the manifesto mentions companies like Amazon and Microsoft with whom the Secretary would have collaborated for the Hackathon. This part of the manifesto point was not completed during the tenure of the Secretary. - Bettering the Campus Ambassador Program (Partially Completed)
The Campus Ambassador Program was something the Secretary had started and a small backend for the credit and token system, mentioned in the manifesto, was almost ready. However, the Program did not turn out exactly how the Secretary had planned it due to various reasons. - E-Coupon System (Not Completed)
The E-Coupon System was not completed during the tenure of the Secretary, as is corroborated by him. - Atmos Website (Completed)
The Atmos website was made as a sub-page of the SU Website and according to the Secretary was completed.
TECHNICAL SENATE
- Tech Senate Website/SWD Tab (Completed)
Instead of making a new website, which was in accordance with the previous SUC’s mandate, the Secretary incorporated the website’s proposed content in the SU Website, which can be accessed from the Tech Senate page under the Student Life heading. - Course Credits for Club Projects (Partially Completed)
The Secretary has informally completed this point, however, since course credits is an institute-wide domain, changes could not be made arbitrarily by one campus and had to be discussed with the sister campuses before making any change. The Secretary has put the wheels in motion, however, due to the aforementioned reasons, the point was not completed during the tenure. - Improving Campus through Technical Projects (Partially Completed)
The specific mention of the campus bus tracker was not completed. However, some other projects like tracking the number of people in the badminton court, were initiated but not completed during the Secretary’s tenure. The Secretary mentioned that these things will be completed by this year. - Tech Nights (Completed)
Although not named Tech Nights, most free weekends involved some event hosted by a technical club. - Storage Room for the Technical Senate (Completed)
According to the Secretary, the following things were done to solve this problem. Rooms in Shankar Bhavan’s basement were used to solve the immediate issue. Thriveforce got a new lab to store their equipment. The locks in Sandbox and Tinkerer’s Lab were revamped which ensured better security for the Technical Senate’s equipment. - More Space for Technical Activities (Completed)
The Secretary, in collaboration with IIC, had opened up a lab for Thriveforce, which was then used by the different technical bodies. Besides that, a room in I-block was separately used as a storage room. The new SAC would also accommodate more space for the technical clubs, with many rooms being allocated to specific technical teams. - SUTC & SIP (Completed)
The Technical Senate ledger gave the Secretary a chance to grant funds for projects at a faster rate and so multiple projects got funding under these funds. According to the Secretary, the RC planes made by Aeolous, multiple robots by Thriveforce, the Mars Rover Team Project Vanguard, Ad Astra, and Wall Street got funds from this. Around 3L was spent on such projects according to him. - Sponsorship/Bulk Discounts from Companies (Partially Completed)
The Secretary mentioned that they did not get sponsorship but did get bulk discounts by creating a list of items required at the start of the year. The sponsorship which the Secretary had envisioned did not come through due to various reasons.
The following are the closing remarks by the Secretary at the end of his tenure:
I don’t know if anyone else would believe me or not but I believe that I was able to make a difference to the technical culture we had on campus. I got funding for each and every club project that came to my table. I put everything into it so that any club no matter how small, any project no matter how small; if the student wished to learn it could get it done. And I feel that the 21L profit in Atmos ‘23 is nothing; it’s not my crowning achievement. My only crowning achievement is that the students could do the projects they wanted to do. That is my crowning achievement.
